National Institute for the Deaf – Resources , Courses and Community Support

We are pleased to share the important work of the National Institute for the Deaf (NID). Visit their official website at https://nid.org.za/ to explore their comprehensive Resource Hub (https://nid.org.za/resources/) and Online Shop (https://national-institute-for-the-deaf.myshopify.com/), which offer a range of valuable materials and products. Their expanding SASL Video Dictionary (https://www.learnsasl.com/) features over 15,000 South African Sign Language videos, with more than 5,000 signs available in the free version, and is also accessible as a mobile app on major devices.

In addition, NID offers Deaf Sensitisation and Awareness courses to promote greater inclusion and understanding. The centre also hosts an old age home for Deaf adults, and donations are welcome directly to the centre to support their ongoing work and services.

Interpreters Cohort Training – Kigali 2026

March 22-28, 2026

As the week arrives, we are pleased to announce that the Interpreters Lead Cohort Training will be held in Kigali from March 22–28, 2026, taking place during the same week as the AFSLI Conference (March 23–25, 2026).

The in-person training was intentionally scheduled to coincide with the conference week, enabling participants to gain a deeper understanding of the project while strengthening their engagement and contribution to the conference.

The Cohort Training begins on March 22. A formal presentation of the project will be delivered on March 25, followed by continued training sessions on March 26 and 27.
